District meetings include workshops on various topics of interest to local Optimist Clubs and members. Optimist International frequently sends an official International Representative to the District Conventions so his/her knowledge of Optimist activities will also be available. Most District meetings and conferences are held on Friday evenings and Saturdays and usually include a luncheon with time to get to know your fellow Optimists in your District. It may also include the District Oratorical Contest and other fun activities. Once a year, in August we have a District Convention. Check out the information about upcoming meetings.
The annual District Convention features the election of a Governor-Elect and a variety of training events. Clubs are represented by delegates (the number is based on Club membership) who participate in the election and other District business. Every Club should provide an adequate delegation, equal to its voting strength, including President, President-Elect and Secretary-Treasurer. Conventions also include other fun events, a Governor's Dinner and provide a high degree of fellowship for attendees.
Our District also holds conferences for all of our Junior Optimist Clubs at the same time as our District conferences. During these meetings, there are workshops for Club members and officers, community projects and at the annual convention, an election for JOI District Governor takes place.
